Kids 4 Jesus Update

During this Lenten season we are collecting boxes or bags of pasta to complete our “Macaroni Mile”. Our children are bringing in the pasta to lay end to end from Room 3 to Room 10…that is about 250 packages. Ms. Sandi has challenged the children to complete this mile by Good Friday. Church members are encouraged to help us make our goal. The pasta will be donated to local food distribution centers. So watch for the pasta to line our walls soon!

Kids 4 Jesus is asking for “sewers” to help us with a couple of projects. We need over the head big bibs for our infants and hand tossed bean bags for games. We cannot find the bibs in the stores and are in need to keep our little ones clean.

Journey with us this Lenten season…our staff is doing a bible study. Our families have Lenten activity calendars and footprints with bible verses and sayings posted on our bulletin board. If you wish a study or calendar, we have extras in the office.

We are now registering for summer. Our teachers are planning a fantastic fun summer. The school-age children will have a new program with adventure camps each week. A family may register for the whole summer or individual weeks. This is new! Spread the word and encourage others to join us this summer. All other programs will remain full or part-time with great summer activities planned.

High School – Bible Study resumes tonight
We will be meeting from 8:30-10 PM. Please pay close attention to the updates this month, as we won’t be meeting every week.

High School – Underground Church prayer event postponed
The prayer event originally intended for this weekend has been postponed. We’re looking to reschedule it for sometime in April or May, so keep your eyes peeled!

High School – College Seminar this Saturday
North Park is hosting a college seminar at First Covenant Church this Saturday from 11:30-2 PM. To sign up, please visit hileague.com (FCC’s youth ministry site).

All Youth – Free Pizza Night – March 7th – 6 PM
The staff of Covenant Cedars will be visiting CCC for a night of worship, teaching, and free pizza! This is the perfect opportunity for kids to learn about what camp is like. Be sure to invite your friends – maybe they’ll come to camp with you this summer! (Click here to RSVP on Facebook)

Middle School – Project 86 Concert – March 10th – 6-11:30 PM – $6
In lieu of our regular meeting, we’re going to see Project 86 with Flatfoot 56, Wavorly, and From Dust at Grace University! Be sure to sign up at youth group or on Sunday morning. Medical release form required (click here to download). For more information, check out graceuniversity.edu

High School – Feed My Starving Children Service Trip – March 19-21
Thanks to everyone who signed up for the FMSC trip! We have 11 people going total, including myself and Carol. Look for a complete rundown of the weekend soon.

Youth Update | February 22, 2010

New Feature on the Youth Page
The church’s youth page now features a calendar for “in the works” youth events. Some listed events are still in the planning stages, so all information is subject to change. Nonetheless, this can be a useful tool for those of you who like to plan ahead! Check it out here.

Middle School – Youth Group Resumes this Wednesday – 6:30-8:00 PM
We didn’t meet last week because it was Ash Wednesday, but we’re back in action this week!

High School – No Bible Study This Wednesday
Although we won’t be meeting this week, there is a special opportunity for juniors and seniors to attend a night of musical worship on Thursday. If you are interested, please contact me and I’ll fill you in!

Middle School – 30 Hour Famine / Lock-In This Friday-Saturday – 6PM-8AM – FREE
This isn’t your average lock-in! Instead of goofing around all night, students will have a unique opportunity to learn about how they can help fight world poverty. We will also be engaging in some service projects including serving at SOS in the evening on Friday. And for those of you who like games, don’t worry – we’ll still find time to have fun! All you need to bring is a sleeping bag and a pillow, and clothes you don’t mind working in. Because we are going offsite for a portion of this event, a medical release form is required for all participants. You can download a printable pdf of our medical release and permission from the youth section of our website: http://www.covenantomaha.org

Special note to parents regarding the 30 Hour Famine
Students are encouraged – but certainly not required – to fast on Friday. It is completely your call on whether your child is in good physical condition for fasting. Please know that we will not be serving any food of substance until breakfast on Saturday morning, so if your child does not fast, they will need to eat dinner before arriving on Friday. We will make sure that those who do fast have plenty to drink and get plenty of rest!

High School Guys / All Girls – MAN NIGHT and Chick Night – This Saturday
MAN NIGHT and Chick Night are this Saturday. Dudenight is called “Man Night” this month because it’s for high school students only – our all ages event will make it’s return next month. Also, due to the imminent threat of female infiltration, the guys are meeting in a secret location – you’ll have to contact Mike for details. The girls are meeting at Lori E’s home – contact Brooke, Tessa, or Stephanie for details.

All Youth – Free Pizza Night – March 7th – Time TBA
The staff of Covenant Cedars will be visiting CCC for a “Free Pizza Night.” It will be an evening of worship, teaching, and fellowship, as well as an opportunity for kids to learn about camp. Make sure you invite your friends – maybe they’ll come to camp with you this summer!

High School – Feed My Starving Children Service Trip – March 19-21 – High School
This March, we’re going to Minneapolis with a few other Covenant churches to pack boxes of food for FMSC. We will be travelling during the day on March 19th, so students will need to be called out of school. The cost should be minimal as we will be staying at a local church. Look for complete details soon, but in the meantime, mark your calendars and make proper arrangements!

Youth Update | February 8, 2010

All Youth – Youth Sunday – February 14th
The youth are taking over the worship service this Sunday! Most of the spots are filled, but if you want to participate, it’s not too late! Here’s what we have left:

  • Invocation & Lord’s Prayer
  • Special Music
  • Offertory
  • Soundbooth

To sign up, simply let Mike now (text, e-mail, Facebook, phone call…anything works!).

High School – Dinner & A Movie – February 14th, 5-8 PM
Our regular High School Youth Group finally resumes this Sunday. In addition to dinner, we’re watching a movie this time! Invite a friend…

High School – New Study Begins February 14th
We will also begin a new study based on the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan. Students are urged to pick up their own copy so that they can read a chapter for each week’s lesson. Mike will be making a run to Parables late this week; if you’d like him to pick one up for you, let him know. They’re about $12 each. For more information about Crazy Love, please visit http://www.crazylovebook.com
