Faith In Action – Week 6 Day 5

WEEK 6 // DAY 5
FAITH THAT PRAYS
Read James 5:13-20
James ends where all true faith begins — with dependence on God. The thread running through this passage is prayer: in suffering, in joy, in sickness, in sin, and in restoration. A life of prayer isn’t a backup plan; it’s the main posture of faith. Prayer is how faith breathes.
To live by faith is to live prayerfully — aware that God is near, active, and good. This kind of faith doesn’t deny pain or pretend joy; it brings everything before God. It confesses. It intercedes. It rejoices. It restores. Prayer weaves every part of life into the story of God’s grace.
And at the center of that story stands Jesus — our great High Priest, who always lives to intercede for us. When you pray, you’re joining your voice with His. You’re stepping into a conversation already happening between the Son and the Father — one that never stops, one that’s full of mercy. That’s why prayer is powerful and effective: not because of who we are, but because of who He is.
As this letter closes, James calls us to a faith that not only listens but lives — a faith that prays. So wherever you find yourself today — weary, joyful, uncertain, hopeful — bring it to Jesus. He is listening. He is near. And His grace is enough.
Reflection Questions:
- What connects all the different situations James mentions in 5:13–20?
- How does prayer demonstrate active faith in daily life?
- What does it mean to join Jesus in His ongoing intercession?
- How can you make prayer more central in the weeks ahead?
Journaling Prompt:
Write a prayer of commitment to live dependently on Jesus. Express your desire to bring everything — joy, pain, sin, and need — to Him first.
Thank Jesus for always interceding for you. Ask Him to teach you to live a life of prayer that reflects His heart.
