Resume Builder – Downfall // Week #5 // September 11, 2022
Pastor Jael Boeschling   -

In the final message of our Downfall series, we trace the life of King Ahab—Israel’s most evil king—as a sobering picture of how a “resume” built on passivity toward God, idolatry, and bad influences leads to personal ruin and a poisoned legacy. Walking through 1 Kings 16–22, the sermon shows how Ahab tolerated and then embraced idol worship, ignored God’s clear commands, rejected the prophetic voice of Elijah, and surrounded himself with voices (including Jezebel’s) that affirmed his sin instead of calling him back to God. Even his brief moment of outward humility falls short of true repentance, and his choices ripple forward through his children and the nation. Against Ahab’s example, we’re invited to examine our own passivity toward God’s Word, our susceptibility to worldly influence, and our reluctance to truly repent—and then to contrast that with Jesus, the true King, who used His influence in humility and obedience all the way to the cross. The message closes by calling us to steward our God-given influence intentionally, surround ourselves with godly voices, and leave a Christ-shaped legacy where we live, work, and play.
