Faith In Action – Week 4 Day 1

WEEK 4 // DAY 1
DRAW NEAR TO GOD
Read James 4:1-10
There’s a simple but profound invitation in these words: “Come near to God.” It’s not a command rooted in guilt, but in grace. God isn’t distant or unapproachable. He longs for closeness with you. Yet, James reminds us that this closeness requires humility and honesty — a willingness to confess what separates us and turn our hearts back toward Him.
The image James paints is that of a relationship restored. When you take a step toward God in repentance and dependence, He doesn’t wait at a distance — He runs toward you. This echoes Jesus’ story of the prodigal son, where the father sees his child returning and runs to embrace him. That’s the heart of God toward every believer who desires renewed fellowship.
Drawing near isn’t about earning favor; it’s about surrendering pride. We draw near by spending time in prayer, by reading His Word, and by letting the Holy Spirit uncover what’s been crowding our hearts. When you do, you’ll find not condemnation but compassion. The closer you come to Him, the clearer His grace becomes — and the less appealing the things of the world will seem.
Today, God invites you to come near again. Whether you’ve wandered or simply grown weary, His promise remains steady: He will come near to you.
Reflection Questions:
- What stands out to you most in James 4:8?
- Why does James link drawing near to God with cleansing and purity?
- What might be keeping you from closeness with God right now?
- What step could you take today to draw near to Him?
Journaling Prompt:
Take time to write about what it means for you personally to “draw near” to God. Describe what that closeness might look like in your daily life.
Invite God to draw near to you today. Ask Him to cleanse your heart and renew your love for His presence.
