WEEK 3 // DAY 1

DEVOTED TO THE WORD

Read Acts 2:42-47

The early church began with devotion. Acts 2:42 says, “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching…” This wasn’t casual interest or occasional curiosity—it was deep commitment. These first believers longed to understand the gospel and apply it to their lives. They recognized that the Word of God was their foundation, the source of truth and the anchor for their new life in Christ.

To be devoted means to give yourself persistently and intentionally to something. The early Christians didn’t treat the apostles’ teaching as background noise or optional wisdom. They hung on every word because they knew those words revealed Jesus—His heart, His mission, His will. They believed that transformation flowed not from feelings or trends, but from truth.

Today, our devotion to God’s Word remains just as essential. In a world flooded with voices competing for our attention, the voice of Christ must shape our minds and hearts. Being devoted to the Word is not about legalistic study—it’s about relational pursuit. When you open Scripture, you are sitting at the feet of Jesus. You are learning His voice, aligning your life with His kingdom, and being transformed by His truth.

Devotion to the Word anchors us when life feels chaotic. It reminds us that truth is not shifting sand but solid rock. It teaches us to discern God’s ways, to love what He loves, and to live in step with His Spirit. And as we devote ourselves to Scripture together—as a church family—we grow in unity. We learn to think with the mind of Christ and act with His compassion.

Imagine a church community where people’s hearts are so shaped by the Word that grace, truth, and humility overflow naturally. That’s what happened in Acts 2—and that’s what can happen among us. Devotion to the Word isn’t about checking a box; it’s about becoming a people who are shaped by God’s story so deeply that it changes how we live, love, and lead every day.

Reflection Questions:

  • What does it mean for you personally to be “devoted” to God’s Word?
  • How has Scripture shaped your understanding of who Jesus is?
  • What keeps you from being more consistent in your time in the Word?
  • How might your devotion to Scripture help strengthen the unity of your church?

Journaling Prompt:

Write about a time when God’s Word gave you clarity, conviction, or comfort. Reflect on how devotion to Scripture has drawn you closer to Jesus.

Prayer Starter:
Ask the Holy Spirit to renew your love for God’s Word and to give you a teachable heart that delights in His truth.
