WEEK 3 // DAY 4
CREATED FOR GOOD WORKS
Read Ephesians 2:1-10
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)
One of the beautiful balances of Ephesians 2 is that while salvation is entirely by grace, it always leads to good works. We don’t do good works to be saved; we do good works because we are saved.
Paul says we are God’s “workmanship.” The Greek word here is poiēma, from which we get our word “poem.” It means we are God’s masterpiece, His artwork, His creative handiwork. Salvation is not just about forgiveness—it’s about transformation. God is shaping us into something beautiful that reflects His glory.
And part of that transformation is a new purpose. We are created in Christ Jesus for good works. Notice the order: grace first, then works. Our works flow from our salvation, not toward it. Even more amazing, God has prepared these works in advance for us to walk in. That means your life has meaning, purpose, and design. God has sovereignly arranged opportunities for you to love, serve, and reflect Christ.
This truth should free us from both pride and despair. Pride says, “Look what I did for God!” Despair says, “I don’t matter.” But grace says, “You are God’s workmanship, created for His good works.” You don’t have to strive for significance—it’s already woven into who you are in Christ.
Today, ask God to open your eyes to the good works He has prepared for you. It may be as simple as encouraging a friend, serving a neighbor, or praying for someone in need. Each act of love is a brushstroke in the masterpiece God is painting with your life.
Reflection Questions:
- What does it mean to you personally that you are God’s workmanship?
- How does knowing God prepared good works for you change the way you view your daily life?
- Why is it important to keep the order clear: grace first, then works?
- What “good work” might God be prompting you to walk in today?
Journaling Prompt:
Write about a recent opportunity where you sensed God leading you to do good works in His name. How did it reflect His grace in your life?
Thank God that you are His workmanship and ask Him to help you walk in the good works He has prepared for you.
