Unmatched – Week 2 Day 5
WEEK 2 // DAY 5
THE POWER OF THE CROSS
Read Romans 3:21-26
“The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18)
To the watching world, the cross looked like weakness, failure, foolishness. How could a crucified man possibly be the Savior? And yet, Paul boldly proclaims that what looks like foolishness to some is actually the very power of God.
The cross is not just a historical event; it is the centerpiece of Christianity. Everything flows from it. On the cross, God’s justice was satisfied, His love was displayed, our sin was paid for, and new life was secured. This is why Paul could say, “I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified” (1 Cor. 2:2). The cross is the gospel in one symbol.
For us, this means our boast, our hope, our confidence is not in ourselves but in Christ crucified. We don’t add to His sacrifice; we receive it by faith. And when we do, we encounter not foolishness but power—the power to forgive, the power to reconcile, the power to transform lives, the power to save.
As you end this week reflecting on the unmatched sacrifice of Jesus, remember that the cross is not just something to admire from a distance. It is an invitation to live under its power every day. To daily take up your cross. To live as one who has died to sin and been raised to life in Christ. To boast not in yourself but in the One who loved you and gave Himself for you.
The cross may seem foolish to some, but for those who believe, it is the very power of God.
Reflection Questions:
- Why do you think the cross seems like “foolishness” to many in the world today?
- How have you experienced the power of the cross in your own life?
- What does it mean for you to “receive by faith” the sacrifice of Jesus each day?
- Where might God be inviting you to live more fully under the power of the cross?
Journaling Prompt:
Write about how you want to live more deeply under the power of the cross in your daily life.
Declare to the Lord that the cross is your power and not foolishness; ask Him to help you live daily in the reality of His unmatched sacrifice and resurrection power.
