WEEK 1 // DAY 4

LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS

Read John 1:1-18

4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.

John tells us that Jesus is the light shining in the darkness, and that the darkness has not overcome it. This is a powerful image. The world is full of darkness—fear, sin, confusion, loneliness—but Jesus came to bring light. His presence exposes lies, offers clarity, brings hope, and shows us the way to true life.

No matter how deep the darkness feels in your life—whether it’s anxiety, broken relationships, addiction, or despair—Jesus’ light can penetrate it. He does not leave us in darkness; He steps into it. The light of Christ brings healing, peace, and transformation.

Remember that darkness never wins. The light of Jesus shines brighter than any fear or sin. When you feel overwhelmed, choose to walk in His light. This isn’t always easy, but it’s always life-giving.

Let this truth encourage you today: you don’t have to be afraid because Jesus is your light.

Reflection Questions:

  • What forms of darkness in our world make you long for Jesus’ light?
  • How have you experienced His light shining into dark areas of your own life?
  • Why do you think the darkness can never overcome His light?
  • What would it look like to walk in His light more fully this week?

Journaling Prompt:

Welcome Jesus’ light into the dark corners of your life. Write honestly about where you feel fear, confusion, or heaviness, and then invite His light to shine and bring hope.

Prayer Starter:
Invite Jesus to shine His light into your fears and struggles, bringing hope and peace.
