Summer in the Psalms

WEEK 2 // DAY 4

THE CHAFF THE WIND BLOWS AWAY

Read Psalm 1

“Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.”

In contrast to the deeply rooted tree is chaff—lightweight, hollow, and easily swept away. Chaff looks like grain but has no substance. It’s what’s discarded after the harvest. The psalmist gives us this vivid image to warn us: without rootedness in truth, we become fragile in the face of life’s storms.

Many lives look full on the outside but are hollow within. Without a connection to the eternal, we’re left chasing trends, opinions, and approval that shift like the wind. The result isn’t just weariness—it’s lostness.

Jesus told the parable of the wise and foolish builders (Matthew 7). One built on rock, the other on sand. The storm came to both, but only the house on the rock stood firm. What are you building your life on? If Christ is your foundation, the wind may blow, but it cannot undo you.

Reflection Questions:

  • What “winds” have threatened to blow you off course lately?
  • Are there areas in your life that feel more like chaff than rooted grain?
  • How can you more intentionally build your life on the foundation of Christ?
  • What does God’s Word say that can anchor you today?

Journaling Prompt:

Write about a time when you felt “blown away”—and how God brought you back to a place of rootedness.

Prayer Starter:
Ask Jesus to be your firm foundation. Confess any areas of instability and ask for His strength to endure.
