Where Life Begins – Week 1 Day 1

WEEK 1 // DAY 1
NOT LEFT ALONE
Read John 14:15-27
Jesus speaks these words into a moment filled with uncertainty. His disciples are beginning to sense that everything is about to change. The One they have followed, depended on, and trusted is telling them He is going away. In that moment, what they most fear is being left behind—left to figure things out on their own. And it is precisely into that fear that Jesus makes a promise: you will not be alone.
This promise is not just comforting—it is foundational. Jesus does not say that His followers will receive helpful ideas or spiritual principles to guide them after He leaves. He says they will receive a Person—the Holy Spirit—who will be with them forever. The Spirit is not an abstract force or distant presence. He is the very presence of God, sent to dwell with and within His people. This means that from the very beginning, life with God is not defined by independence, but by relationship.
For you, this changes the way you think about following Jesus. You are not being asked to carry the weight of your faith alone. You are not being sent into your life with a set of instructions and told to do your best. The Spirit of God is with you—present in your decisions, your struggles, your questions, and your everyday moments. Even when you feel uncertain, overwhelmed, or spiritually weak, the reality remains: you are not alone.
The invitation today is to begin noticing that presence. Not to manufacture something new, but to become aware of what is already true. The Spirit is with you in ways you may not always feel, but He is never absent. Life begins not when you figure everything out, but when you live in the reality that God is already near.
Reflection Questions:
- What does Jesus promise about the Spirit in this passage?
- What does it mean that you are not left as an orphan?
- Where in your life do you tend to feel most alone?
- How would your day change if you lived aware of God’s presence with you?
Journaling Prompt:
Take time to write about an area of your life where you feel alone or overwhelmed, and reflect on what it means that God is present with you there.
Thank Jesus for not leaving you alone, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you become more aware of His presence today.
