WEEK 6 // DAY 1

SENT BY JESUS

Read Matthew 28:16-20

Jesus begins His final invitation by grounding it in authority. Before He sends His followers, He reminds them who He is. The call to go does not rest on their confidence, experience, or spiritual maturity. It rests entirely on His authority. Jesus is not offering a suggestion—He is commissioning His people as the risen Lord.

This matters because mission often feels intimidating. Many people hesitate to live sent lives because they feel unqualified or unsure of what to say. Jesus anticipates that fear. He does not say, “You are ready,” or “You have mastered this.” He says, “All authority has been given to me.” The weight of the mission rests on Him, not you.

The word “therefore” connects Jesus’ authority directly to the invitation to go. Because He reigns, you can step forward with trust. Mission is not about carrying God into the world; it is about joining Him where He is already at work. Jesus sends you not as a lone representative, but as someone under His authority and care.

Being sent does not mean abandoning your life or context. The disciples were sent into ordinary spaces—homes, cities, workplaces, and relationships. Likewise, Jesus sends you into the rhythms of your daily life. Mission unfolds through presence, faithfulness, and obedience in ordinary places.

This reframes how you think about discipleship. Going is not a separate phase reserved for the spiritually elite. It is the natural movement of a life shaped by Jesus. Those who have followed, rested, surrendered, and abided are now invited to participate in what God is doing in the world.

Jesus sends you because He loves the world—and because He is with you in it.

Reflection Questions:

  • How does Jesus frame the invitation to go?
  • Why is His authority essential to mission?
  • Where do you feel hesitant to live sent?
  • How might trusting Jesus’ authority change your response?

Journaling Prompt:

Reflect on where Jesus has placed you right now. Write about how He might be inviting you to join Him there.

Jesus, thank You for Your authority. Help me trust You as You send me into the world.
