Invited By Jesus – Week 5 Day 1

WEEK 5 // DAY 1
STAYING CONNECTED
Read John 15:1-11
Jesus speaks these words to disciples who have already followed Him, trusted Him, and walked with Him. This invitation is not about beginning faith—it is about sustaining it. After surrender comes remaining. Jesus knows how easy it is to drift from dependence into self-effort, even in spiritual life.
The image Jesus uses is intentionally simple. Branches do not produce fruit by working harder. They bear fruit by staying connected. Life flows from the vine into the branch naturally. Disconnection, not weakness, is what causes fruitlessness. Jesus makes it clear that spiritual vitality does not come from effort alone, but from relationship.
This teaching gently confronts a common temptation: turning faith into a performance. It is possible to follow Jesus, obey Him, and even serve Him, while slowly shifting into self-reliance. Abiding pulls you back into dependence. It reminds you that everything good in your life flows from Christ’s life within you.
Jesus’ words are not meant to discourage you. “Apart from me you can do nothing” is not a threat—it is an invitation into freedom. You were never meant to carry life on your own. Remaining in Jesus means allowing Him to be your source, not just your example.
In daily life, abiding looks less dramatic than striving. It looks like returning—again and again—to prayer, Scripture, trust, and presence. It means noticing when you are operating on fumes and intentionally reconnecting to Christ.
Jesus invites you to stay. Not to rush ahead. Not to prove yourself. Simply to remain—and let His life flow through yours.
Reflection Questions:
- What does Jesus say is necessary for fruitfulness?
- How does this image challenge self-reliance?
- Where do you notice yourself striving spiritually?
- What helps you remain connected to Jesus?
Journaling Prompt:
Reflect on how you tend to measure spiritual growth. Write about what it would look like to focus on connection rather than performance.
Jesus, help me remain in You. Teach me to trust Your life at work within me.
