Invited By Jesus – Week 2 Day 1

WEEK 2 // DAY 1
AN INVITATION TO EXPLORE
Read John 1:35-50
Jesus notices two disciples following Him at a distance. They are close enough to observe, but not yet close enough to commit. Instead of rebuking them or demanding clarity, Jesus turns and asks a deeply revealing question: “What do you want?” Before discipleship becomes about obedience, it begins with desire.
Their response is simple and honest. They don’t offer a theological statement or a declaration of faith. They ask where Jesus is staying. In other words, Can we come closer? Can we spend time with you? And Jesus answers with one of the most gracious invitations in Scripture: “Come and see.”
This moment shows that Jesus welcomes curiosity. He does not require people to fully understand who He is before coming near. He invites them into proximity, trusting that relationship will shape understanding over time. Faith often grows not through certainty, but through closeness.
Jesus’ invitation is relational, not transactional. He does not say, “Come and see if you qualify,” or “Come and see if you believe enough.” He simply invites them to be with Him. Discipleship begins not with having answers, but with being present.
This matters deeply for your daily life. You may carry questions, doubts, or uncertainty about God. You may feel unsure about what you believe or where you stand spiritually. Jesus does not push you away for those things. He invites you closer. Curiosity is not a barrier to faith—it is often the doorway.
To “come and see” is to take a step toward Jesus without pretending to have it all figured out. It is to trust that being near Him will shape your heart over time. Jesus still asks, “What do you want?” And He still invites you to come close enough to discover the answer.
Reflection Questions:
- What question does Jesus ask the disciples, and why is it significant?
- How do the disciples respond, and what does that reveal about where they are?
- Where do you feel curious or uncertain about Jesus right now?
- What would it look like for you to come closer instead of staying at a distance?
Journaling Prompt:
Take time to reflect on what you truly want from Jesus. Write honestly, without editing or spiritualizing your desires.
Jesus, thank You for welcoming my questions. Invite me closer and help me trust You as I explore faith with You.
