Invited By Jesus – Week 1 Day 4

WEEK 1 // DAY 4
ORDINARY PEOPLE, EXTRAORDINARY CALL
Read Luke 5:1-11
Luke records that Peter’s calling comes after failure. An empty night of fishing. Exhaustion. Frustration. And it’s there—after obedience that feels risky and unnecessary—that Jesus reveals a deeper calling. Discipleship often begins where self-confidence ends.
Jesus doesn’t call Peter because of his skill or spiritual maturity. He calls him because He chooses him. The power of discipleship lies not in the disciple, but in the One who calls. Jesus reshapes Peter’s identity by inviting him into a purpose bigger than himself.
This story reminds you that Jesus specializes in ordinary people. You don’t need to fix yourself before following Him. You don’t need a clean résumé or spiritual track record. You only need a willingness to trust Jesus’ word, even when it stretches you.
When Peter falls at Jesus’ feet in awe and fear, Jesus responds with grace: “Don’t be afraid.” Following Jesus is not about fear of failure—it’s about trusting His call over your limitations.
Reflection Questions:
- What precedes Peter’s call in this story?
- How does Jesus respond to Peter’s fear and inadequacy?
- Where might Jesus be calling you beyond your confidence?
- What fears might be holding you back from following fully?
Journaling Prompt:
Write about a place where you feel inadequate. Invite Jesus to meet you there and speak His calling over your life.
Jesus, thank You for calling ordinary people like me. Help me trust Your grace more than my fears.
