Closer – Week 2 Day 5

WEEK 2 // DAY 5
CHOOSING TRUST OVER FEAR
Read Matthew 1:18-24
Joseph didn’t get all his questions answered, but he got enough clarity to obey. His trust in God wasn’t based on full understanding—it was based on God’s character. This is one of the most important lessons of Advent: trust is not the absence of confusion; it is choosing to follow God even when the path is unclear. Joseph steps forward in obedience, not because everything made sense, but because he believed God was with him.
Fear could have easily controlled Joseph’s decisions. Fear of opinions. Fear of being misunderstood. Fear of the unknown. But Joseph chose trust. He embraced the role God entrusted to him, even though it meant stepping into a story far bigger than he could comprehend. Your obedience in confusing seasons may feel just as costly—but it is just as significant. When you choose trust over fear, you create space for God’s purposes to unfold.
Joseph’s obedience also shaped Jesus’ identity within the world. By naming Him, Joseph legally embraced Jesus as his son. This act connected Jesus to the lineage of David and fulfilled God’s promises. Your obedience may feel small, hidden, or quiet—but God uses it to accomplish far more than you realize. Your yes to God echoes far beyond the moment. Trust always leads to participation in God’s story.
As this week closes, remember this: God doesn’t ask you to understand everything. He asks you to trust Him. He asks you to take the next faithful step. He asks you to believe that His presence is enough to steady your heart. Emmanuel walks with you into every act of obedience. You don’t need a perfect plan—you need a faithful Savior. And He is closer than you think.
Reflection Questions:
- What part of Joseph’s obedience stands out to you the most?
- What fears tend to hold you back from trusting God?
- Where is God inviting you to take a step of obedience right now?
- How can you rely on His presence as you move forward?
Journaling Prompt:
Write about a step of obedience God may be asking you to take. Reflect on how His presence empowers you to say yes.
Lord, give me courage to trust You even when I don’t understand. Strengthen my heart to obey You with confidence and peace.
