WEEK 2 // DAY 2

GOD SPEAKS INTO THE UNKNOWN

Read Matthew 1:18-24

Joseph didn’t rush to a conclusion. He “considered” everything—he sat in the tension, wrestled with the unknown, and didn’t try to force clarity. And it was after this honest engagement with confusion that God spoke. Sometimes you want answers immediately, but God often speaks after the wrestling, when your heart is finally quiet enough to hear Him. Waiting in confusion is not wasted—it’s space where God prepares you to receive His voice.

The angel’s message reframed everything Joseph assumed. What looked like a scandal was actually the Spirit’s work. What felt like a personal crisis was part of God’s cosmic rescue mission. Confusion lifts when God speaks—not because you suddenly understand every detail, but because His presence brings clarity to the heart. God may not always explain the “why,” but He always reveals Himself. That is the clarity you need most.

Joseph learned that God is not silent in seasons of uncertainty. He still speaks—through Scripture, through the Spirit, through wise community, and through the peace that settles in your soul when you dare to trust Him. His voice cuts through fear, reorders your assumptions, and reminds you that He is in control even when life feels upside down. When God speaks, confusion doesn’t get the final word.

The angel’s message didn’t remove every challenge Joseph faced, but it gave him something deeper than explanations—it gave him confidence in God’s presence. Your situation may not change overnight either. But when you hear God’s reassurance—whether through His Word or through His Spirit—you can face uncertainty with courage. Advent is a reminder that God still breaks into the middle of human confusion with truth that heals and hope that sustains. He speaks because He is near.

Reflection Questions:

  • What stands out to you about the timing of God’s message to Joseph?
  • How do you typically respond when you feel confused or unsure?
  • Where do you sense God nudging or speaking to you right now?
  • How can you quiet your heart to hear Him more clearly this week?

Journaling Prompt:

Reflect on a moment in the past when God spoke into your uncertainty. Write about how He might be speaking again in your current situation.

Prayer Starter:
Speak, Lord. Help me hear Your voice in the middle of my questions, and let Your presence bring clarity to my heart.
