Together In Christ – Week 3 Day 3
WEEK 3 // DAY 3
DEVOTED TO THE BREAKING OF BREAD
Read Acts 2:42-47
The phrase “the breaking of bread” carries both everyday and sacred meaning. It refers to shared meals, but also to the Lord’s Supper—the act of remembering Christ’s sacrifice together. The early believers understood that gathering around the table was a holy act. Whether they were eating dinner or celebrating communion, every meal pointed them back to Jesus—the one who broke bread, gave thanks, and offered His body for the world.
Food and faith are deeply connected. When we eat together, we practice dependence, gratitude, and community. The early church didn’t just talk about unity; they tasted it. Every shared meal reminded them that they belonged to Christ and to each other. Every piece of bread broken in remembrance of Jesus reminded them that grace holds them together, not perfection.
In our fast-paced world, meals often become hurried moments or solitary tasks. But for the early believers, the table was sacred space—a place of presence, prayer, and belonging. Around the table, barriers fell. Social status didn’t matter. Wealth didn’t divide. The gospel had created a new family where everyone was welcome.
To be devoted to the breaking of bread means to intentionally make space for others—to slow down, share life, and remember Jesus’ faithfulness together. It’s in those moments that relationships deepen, wounds begin to heal, and gratitude grows. Communion reminds us that Jesus invites us all to the same table, uniting us in His love and forgiveness.
When we share meals, we proclaim the gospel in tangible ways. Every loaf broken and every cup shared is a declaration that we need grace daily—and that we are one in Christ.
Reflection Questions:
- Why do you think the early believers saw shared meals as an act of devotion?
- How does communion remind us of our unity in Christ?
- What would it look like to make your table a place of ministry?
- Who might God be inviting you to share a meal with this week?
Journaling Prompt:
Reflect on a meaningful meal that reminded you of God’s grace or community. Write about how you can reclaim the table as a place of connection and worship.
Thank Jesus for inviting you to His table. Ask Him to make your life and your home a place where others experience His presence and grace.
