WEEK 5 // DAY 4

INSTRUMENTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Read Romans 6:1-14

“Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God… as instruments for righteousness.” (Romans 6:13)

Paul gives us a vivid image here: our bodies are like instruments. The question is, who will we hand them over to? Sin or God?

Every day, we have choices. Will my eyes look at things that honor God or things that fuel sin? Will my hands serve myself or serve others? Will my tongue build up or tear down? Our bodies aren’t neutral. They become tools in the hands of whoever we yield them to.

Imagine a guitar. In the hands of a skilled musician, it produces beauty. In careless hands, it creates noise. Your life in God’s hands can produce a melody of righteousness that blesses others and glorifies Him.

This passage also reminds us that holiness isn’t just about avoiding sin—it’s about actively offering ourselves to God. It’s not just saying “no” to unrighteousness, but saying “yes” to righteousness.

Here’s the beauty: God doesn’t just command us to do this—He empowers us. By His Spirit, we can offer ourselves to Him daily, moment by moment, as instruments ready to be used.

So ask yourself: who’s holding the instrument of your life today?

Reflection Questions:

  • How does the image of being an “instrument” shape your view of holiness?
  • Which parts of your life (words, actions, habits) are easiest to yield to God? Which are hardest?
  • What does it mean to not only resist sin but also actively present yourself to God?
  • Who in your life could be blessed if you offered yourself to God today as His instrument?

Journaling Prompt:

Write a prayer of surrender, offering specific parts of your life (your time, words, relationships, work) to God as instruments of righteousness.

Prayer Starter:
Offer yourself to God today. Ask Him to use your life as an instrument to display His goodness and grace.
