WEEK 4 // DAY 4

PEACE THROUGH THE SPIRIT

Read John 14:15-27

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)

On the edge of the cross, Jesus promised His followers peace—not the fragile, temporary peace the world offers, but His peace. And that peace comes through the Spirit’s presence in us.

The world’s peace depends on circumstances. It’s the absence of conflict, the stability of finances, the comfort of health. But Jesus offers peace that transcends circumstances. It’s the settled assurance that God is with us, for us, and in control—no matter what.

This peace comes through the Spirit because He applies Christ’s victory to our hearts. The Spirit takes the reality of Jesus’ triumph over sin and death and makes it personal in our fears and anxieties. He quiets our hearts with the reminder: “You are not alone. God is with you.”

Notice that Jesus links His peace with the command: “Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” The Spirit gives peace, but we must choose to lean into it. Fear may knock, but we don’t have to let it move in. Worry may whisper, but we don’t have to give it the final word.

Today, ask the Spirit to anchor your heart in Christ’s peace. Not a peace that denies hardship, but a peace that sustains you through it.

Reflection Questions:

  • How would you describe the difference between the world’s peace and Jesus’ peace?
  • Where are you most tempted to let your heart be troubled or afraid?
  • How can the Spirit help you apply Christ’s peace in those areas?
  • What daily practices could help you lean into the Spirit’s peace more consistently?

Journaling Prompt:

Write about an area where you long for peace and how Jesus’ promise of peace through the Spirit speaks into it.

Prayer Starter:
Ask the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with Christ’s peace and help you resist fear and anxiety.
