Unmatched – Week 1 Day 2
WEEK 1 // DAY 2
THE WORD BECAME FLESH
Read John 1:1-18
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
One of the most astounding truths in all of Scripture is that the eternal Word became flesh and lived among us. John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” This means the infinite, eternal God took on finite human flesh. Jesus was fully God and fully human—He entered our broken, messy world, experiencing hunger, fatigue, pain, joy, rejection, and temptation.
Think about the implications of this. God didn’t stay distant and detached from our struggles. Instead, He stepped into them. Jesus’ incarnation shows us a God who is both powerful and compassionate, who understands your suffering firsthand. When you feel alone, misunderstood, or weak, Jesus knows exactly what that feels like because He lived it too.
His humanity makes Him approachable and trustworthy. He isn’t a distant deity who only watches from afar; He is a Savior who entered the pain of the world to rescue us. The incarnation invites us into a deep, personal relationship with God, who is not abstract but real and present.
Reflect today on how Jesus’ coming in the flesh changes your view of God’s love. It’s not theoretical or abstract—it is personal, tangible, and intimate.
Reflection Questions:
- What amazes you most about the eternal God becoming human?
- How does Jesus’ humanity help you relate to Him in your own struggles?
- What difference does it make to know that God understands pain and rejection firsthand?
- In what areas of your life do you need to experience Jesus’ nearness today?
Journaling Prompt:
Write as though you are welcoming Jesus into the details of your daily life. Acknowledge His humanity and invite Him to walk with you through your struggles, joys, and needs.
Thank Jesus for becoming human to meet you where you are, and ask Him to help you trust Him in every part of life.
