Summer in the Psalms

WEEK 8 // DAY 4

RESTORE TO ME THE JOY

“Restore to me the joy of your salvation…”

Sin steals joy. Guilt clouds our relationship with God, drains our spiritual vitality, and dampens worship. David had everything—power, position, privilege—but when he sinned, joy disappeared. He longed not just for forgiveness, but restored joy.

Confession and repentance are not dead ends. They’re doorways to renewal. God doesn’t just want you to be less sinful—He wants you to be more alive. That’s the heart of restoration: not just getting back to zero, but being filled with gladness again.

Jesus offers this joy. He came to give life, and life to the full. (John 10:10) His forgiveness leads to freedom, not fear. His grace brings delight, not drudgery. Real repentance doesn’t leave you in ashes—it leads you to dancing.

Reflection Questions:

  • What kind of joy have you lost because of sin or shame?
  • Why is joy a vital part of your relationship with God?
  • How do forgiveness and joy connect in your own experience?
  • What would restored joy look like for you right now?

Journaling Prompt:

Write about the joy of your salvation—when it was strongest, and how you long to experience it again.

Prayer Starter:
Pray for the joy of your salvation to be restored. Ask the Lord to revive your spirit and stir up fresh delight in Him.
