Summer in the Psalms – Week 6 Day 3
WEEK 6 // DAY 3
THE LORD IS YOUR KEEPER
“The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand.” – Psalm 121:5
The word keeper in Hebrew (shamar) is rich and layered. It means to guard, to watch over, to preserve. This isn’t passive observation—it’s active, engaged care. The Lord is not merely watching over you; He’s watching with you.
Ancient pilgrims would face exposure to sun by day and cold by night. Shade was vital. To say “the Lord is your shade” was a way of declaring His nearness and protection. He is close enough to cast a shadow. Right there. By your side.
Do you see God that way? Not as a distant deity or a spiritual idea, but as a present Protector who walks beside you every step?
Jesus echoed this kind of keeping in John 17 when He prayed, “Holy Father, keep them in your name.” (John 17:11) He is our Keeper—by His Spirit, through every trial, loss, and joy. He’s not just helping us survive; He’s helping us walk well.
Reflection Questions:
- What does it mean for you today to know that God is your Keeper?
- Do you tend to think of God as close or far away? Why?
- How does Jesus reveal the heart of God as our Keeper?
- Where do you need His shade, protection, and nearness today?
Journaling Prompt:
Write about a time when you were aware of God’s nearness during a hard or uncertain moment.
Invite God to be your Keeper today. Pray that His Spirit would guide, protect, and walk with you in whatever you do and say.
