Summer in the Psalms – Week 6 Day 1
WEEK 6 // DAY 1
WHERE DOES MY HELP COME FROM?
Pilgrims approaching Jerusalem would look toward the hills. The road was long and dangerous, winding through rocky terrain and valleys prone to thieves. When they looked up, they saw elevation—but also vulnerability. “From where does my help come?” was not a poetic question. It was raw, real, and necessary.
But then comes the answer: “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
There’s something profoundly grounding in this verse. The psalmist doesn’t look to his own strength, a fortress, or a clever escape route. He looks up—first in fear, then in faith. His eyes move from the hills to the heavens, from danger to the Deliverer.
In your own journey, where are your eyes fixed? In seasons of challenge, do you instinctively look to your own resources—or to the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth?
Jesus is the embodiment of God’s help. He came down to walk the road with us, to be our help not just in emergencies, but every moment. He is the Helper who never leaves us, the Savior who entered our broken world so we could lift our eyes in hope.
Reflection Questions:
- What “hills” are you facing right now—challenges or uncertainties that feel daunting?
- Where do you usually turn for help first—God, or something else?
- What does it mean for God to be your Helper in this season?
- How has Jesus walked with you on difficult paths in the past?
Journaling Prompt:
Write about a time when you faced a tough season and saw God help you in a tangible way. What did you learn about Him?
Ask God to open your eyes to see Him as your true source of help today. Confess your need for Him in your current situation.
