Summer in the Psalms – Week 5 Day 2
WEEK 5 // DAY 2
SERVE THE LORD WITH GLADNESS
“Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!” – Psalm 100:2
Worship is not only expressed in music, but in service. The Hebrew word here for “serve” (עָבַד, avad) can mean both work and worship. In God’s kingdom, they’re often the same thing. Every act done for Him becomes an offering of praise.
But notice the tone—with gladness. Not begrudgingly, not under guilt or pressure, but with delight. True worship flows from a heart that wants to serve. That’s what God is after: not ritual but relationship. Not performance but presence.
Jesus modeled this beautifully. He said, “I came not to be served, but to serve…” (Mark 10:45). The Servant King laid down His life in gladness because of His love for the Father—and for us. When we serve with gladness, we reflect His heart to the world.
Reflection Questions:
- In what ways do you serve God regularly?
- Do you serve with gladness, or does it feel like obligation?
- How does Jesus’ example shape your attitude toward service?
- What’s one act of service you can offer this week as worship?
Journaling Prompt:
Write about a time when you felt real joy in serving someone. What was different about that moment?
Pray that your heart would be reshaped to serve God with gladness, not guilt. Ask Jesus to teach you to serve like Him.
