Summer in the Psalms – Week 4 Day 4
WEEK 4 // DAY 4
WAITING AND WATCHING
Read Psalm 130
“I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning…” – Psalm 130:5–6
Forgiveness is not the end of the psalmist’s journey—it’s a new beginning. But it comes with waiting.
This is not passive waiting. It’s watchful waiting. The image is of a guard on the night shift, longing for the first light of dawn. He knows it’s coming—but he must endure the night.
Spiritual waiting is like that. After confession, we may still feel in the dark. But we anchor our hope in His word—His promises, His truth, His character. Waiting becomes a discipline of trust.
And we don’t wait alone. Jesus entered into our waiting. He waited in the tomb. He endured the silence. But the morning came. Resurrection came. And now He waits with us and for us until every promise is fulfilled.
Reflection Questions:
- What are you currently waiting on God for?
- How does the image of “watchmen for the morning” help you understand spiritual waiting?
- What promises in God’s word do you need to cling to today?
- How does Jesus’ resurrection give you hope while you wait?
Journaling Prompt:
Write about what waiting looks like in your life right now. Then, list three truths from Scripture you can hold onto.
Tell God what you are waiting for. Ask Him to give you strength to wait in hope and not in fear.
