Summer in the Psalms

WEEK 4 // DAY 3

BUT WITH YOU THERE IS FORGIVENESS

Read Psalm 130

“But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared.” – Psalm 130:4

These six words—“But with you there is forgiveness”—are among the most hope-filled in all of Scripture.

The psalmist doesn’t appeal to his goodness. He appeals to God’s nature. Forgiveness is not just something God does—it’s part of who He is. He delights in showing mercy (Micah 7:18). This verse is the hinge on which the whole psalm turns: from despair to hope, from guilt to grace.

But notice the result: “that you may be feared.” Forgiveness doesn’t make us casual toward God. It deepens our reverence. When we grasp the depth of what we’ve been forgiven, we don’t shrug—it drives us to awe and worship.

In Jesus, we receive the fullness of this forgiveness. His blood was not merely a symbol—it was the actual payment for every sin. Because of Him, we can live in the freedom and humility that forgiveness brings.

Reflection Questions:

  • What does this verse teach you about the character of God?
  • Why does forgiveness lead to a deeper fear/reverence of God?
  • How have you personally experienced the grace of God’s forgiveness?
  • How does this forgiveness lead to a changed life?

Journaling Prompt:

Describe what it means to you that God forgives you. How does that affect your self-image and the way you live?

Prayer Starter:
Thank God for His forgiveness. Ask Him to grow in you a deeper reverence and joy in His mercy.
