Summer in the Psalms

WEEK 3 // DAY 2

WE WILL NOT FEAR

Read Psalm 46

“Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea…”

The psalmist moves from a declaration of truth to a declaration of trust: “Therefore, we will not fear.” This is not the absence of emotion; it’s the presence of a greater reality. The images here are apocalyptic—earthquakes, collapsing mountains, roaring seas. The chaos described is cosmic in scale, but the confidence remains: God is with us.

Fear often grows in proportion to what we focus on. When we obsess over uncertainty, pain, or loss, fear flourishes. But when we behold the One who is our refuge, fear begins to shrink. This doesn’t mean we won’t feel afraid—it means fear doesn’t get the final say.

Jesus walked through literal storms. He stood in a boat while His disciples panicked and said, “Peace, be still.” He wasn’t afraid, not because the storm wasn’t real, but because He knew the One who ruled over the waves. The same Jesus now lives in you. That changes everything.

Reflection Questions:

  • What storms in your life feel overwhelming right now?
  • How does fear show up for you—physically, emotionally, relationally?
  • How do the truths of Psalm 46 shift your perspective on fear?
  • What might it look like to choose faith over fear today?

Journaling Prompt:

Write out what “we will not fear” means for you in your current season. Be honest about your struggles and your hopes.

Prayer Starter:
Pray for courage to trust in God’s presence. Ask the Holy Spirit to replace fear with peace.
