Summer in the Psalms – Week 2 Day 2
WEEK 2 // DAY 2
DELIGHTING IN GOD’S WORD
Read Psalm 1
“But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night…”
True delight in God’s Word isn’t forced. It’s not reading out of obligation, guilt, or habit—it’s delight. The Hebrew word for “meditate” means to mutter or murmur—it’s the picture of a cow chewing cud, slowly digesting. The blessed life comes not from having all the answers, but from ruminating on God’s truth regularly and joyfully.
What we meditate on shapes us. If our minds constantly dwell on fear, self-doubt, criticism, or comparison, we begin to be formed by those things. But when our hearts chew on the truth of God’s Word—His promises, character, and wisdom—we are gradually shaped into people of peace, courage, and righteousness.
Jesus is the perfect example of this kind of life. Every time He was tempted, He quoted Scripture. He didn’t just know it—He delighted in it. He lived it. The Word was His sustenance, and the Holy Spirit brings that same Word alive in us. He doesn’t just want to inform you—He wants to form you.
Reflection Questions:
- What are you meditating on most often—truth or anxiety? God’s Word or something else?
- When have you experienced the Word of God as a true delight?
- How do you experience the Spirit’s help in remembering or understanding Scripture?
- What’s one verse you could begin to memorize or meditate on this week?
Journaling Prompt:
Reflect on a recent moment when a passage of Scripture encouraged, challenged, or comforted you.
Ask the Holy Spirit to stir up a deeper delight in God’s Word and help you meditate on it throughout your day.
