Summer in the Psalms – Week 1 Day 5
WEEK 1 // DAY 5
A TABLE, A CUP, AND A HOME FOREVER
Read Psalm 23
“You prepare a table before me… my cup overflows… I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Psalm 23 ends with a banquet and a blessing. The Shepherd becomes a Host—preparing a table, anointing our heads with oil, filling our cup to overflowing. This is more than survival; it’s celebration. Even in the presence of enemies, God doesn’t just protect us—He honors us.
Jesus uses similar language when He shares the Last Supper with His disciples. He prepares a table for them, offering His body and blood as the ultimate sacrifice. In that moment, we see the fulfillment of Psalm 23. The Shepherd becomes the Lamb, laying down His life so that we can dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
The Holy Spirit now fills our “cup”—we are not just invited to the table, but empowered to live with joy, purpose, and abundance. Even in hardship, we can live with confidence that our future is secure and our Shepherd is good.
Reflection Questions:
- What does it mean that God “prepares a table” for you—even in adversity?
- How do you experience the Holy Spirit as the one who fills your cup?
- Where do you sense God’s goodness and mercy pursuing you lately?
- How does your hope in eternity shape your daily life?
Journaling Prompt:
Write a reflection on what it means to be honored, pursued, and welcomed into God’s presence—forever.
Thank God for His goodness and mercy. Ask for a fresh awareness of His presence and a deeper joy in your eternal hope.
